Acer Japonica

A photograph I took of an Acer was the inspiration for this piece. On a piece of handpainted fabric I stencilled acer leaf shapes in different reds to golden with Markal sticks.

I cut leaf shapes from tissue and sugar paper in different sizes and lastly the same shapes in fabric.

I stitched it all down using the same leaf shape as a pattern, one large leaf was the quilting pattern. Some embroidery stitches to form the branches.
