Contemporary Quilt Journal 2012 May

Rape Seed woven into the Landscape.

Rape seed yellow is the colour this month as it is everywhere.

I printed a close-up of the flowers onto cartridge paper, backed it with iron-on vilene and cut it into different size strips and machine embroidered the strips. The landscape fabric was hand painted and cut into 4 equal strips. I wove the paper strips through the fabric layed onto wadding and backing fabric and stitched in horizontal lines in-between the strips.

As a quilting pattern I used one rapeseed flower shape and couched a variegated embroidery thread with it, hand embroidered some stamens to complete.

I zigzagged the edge and then applied a hand made cord to finish my May piece.
