Perchance.

This quilt was made for entry in the Charles Henry Foyle Trust Award for Stitched Textiles 2001, for which I was invited through a selection of previous works. The theme of the competition was 'Perchange to Dream'. A photograph that I took the year before of a dead winter tree reflected in a puddle on a bright sunny day, dreaming of spring was the basis for my design.

As Carlos Castaneda says in his book 'The art of Dreaming': "Through dreaming we can perceive other worlds"

The materials I used were painted and hand dyed cotton, commercially dyed fabric, dark grey and opalesque sheer fabric, Japanese printed tule, cotton and machine quilting thread.

Size 130 x 90 cm.

Machine pieced. Hand quilted.
