Techo Abovedado

A piece made for the 21st Carrefour Européen du Patchwork 16 - 19 September 2015

Gaudi's "La Sagrada Familia" was the inspiration for this piece.

The ceiling inside is wonderful, made of granite, dark grey basalt and burgundy-tinged Iranian porphyry.

The mosaic work in between is made of Murano glass from Venice.

This is taken from a photograph I took inside the cathedral during a visit to Barcelona, it is a tiny piece of the whole ceiling many times enlarged.

I have used mainly my own dyed fabric, fused and machine stitched down.

Quilted in straight lines to emphasize the stark lines of the whole ceiling.

I have added Swarovski crystals to lighten and break the quite dull colours of the marble and stone.

I decided to leave the bottom edge unfinished as the cathedral is not finished either.
